Lest We Perish: Ghazanchetsots Cathedral
The pieces where inspired by the efforts of The Near East Foundation who provided humanitarian assistance in the United States in response to the Armenian Genocide. The organization helped to save more than one million lives. They ran a campaign with beautifully illustrated posters of Armenians and each had the slogan "Lest We Perish". They put a face to the struggle that our people were going through and that resulted in overwhelming support by ordinary people. Now when facing the same threat, we did over 100 years ago my mind went to those amazing posters and thought to reintroduce them in a way and style that would be relevant now. My goal was to also to put a face to our struggle, to educate and hopefully garner support. This piece is called "Ghazanchetsots Cathedral”. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Artsakh of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Built between 1868 and 1887, the cathedral was consecrated in 1888. In 2020 it was deliberately bombed by Azeri forces.
